Exchange student from Japan sitting on wooden bench in a Christmas wonderland

A trip to the tree farm: the only thing Shiho (Japan to Washington) liked better than choosing the tree was trimming it!

December 2023, Vol XXIX, No. 3

As we head into winter break and the excitement of the holiday season, now feels like a good point to pause and reflect. Reflection one: how in the world is the first semester already all-but over!?

The second reflections are not really ours but that of our students. A joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State (USDOS) and Education, International Education Week (IEW) just wrapped up. Now, after an intense period of prepping and delivering cultural presentations, our youth ambassadors share their reflections here in the pages of PAX Press.

The third and final reflection: we're so very lucky to do what we do. We can't help but notice that the goodwill and positivity so often associated with the holiday season is all around us, all year long. It's in the joy of learning about a new place, the love of family that extends to our students, and the generosity of volunteer PAX host families.

Happy holidays from the PAX Press team. While this time of year can feel crazy busy, we hope you find a little time to both reflect and enjoy the issue.
