December 2022, Vol XXVIII, No. 3
A joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State (USDOS) and Education, International Education Week (IEW) is celebrated the third week of November. As such, we use the time between IEW and the December issue of PAX Press to collect all the best IEW-related articles, photos, and videos. This year was no exception. In fact, we had so many great IEW-related submissions that, this time around, the entire issue is dedicated to looking back at how PAX students celebrated this special occasion.
Below, you'll find recaps from PAX scholarship students coming to us through the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) and Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programs in addition to our "Core" program PAX exchange students. Conveniently, the issue is divided into precisely these three sections: FLEX, YES, and Core.
But before you dive in, perhaps you'd like to start with a few editors' picks?
(1) You definitely won't want to miss Mariam's contest-winning submission. Clearly putting a lot of time and energy into both her IEW presentations and her contest essay, the Pakistani turned Utahn's reflections are a real treat.
(2) Speaking of a lot of time and energy, Mariam's compatriot Eshal gave 51 presentations, reaching more than 1,600 Arkansans!
(3) Rounding things out is our old-friend Roman. The mayor, school officials, and USDOS representatives alike turned up to hear the Ukrainian's insights about his culturally rich homeland and its "brave people."
Finally, we would be remiss if we didn't give a shoutout to Lili (Hungary) and Radmir (Uzbekistan), as this is the first time we've had the pleasure of featuring stories from their countries here in the pages of PAX Press! We hope there are many more Hungarian and Uzbek contributions to come and, of course, that you enjoy the issue.
