Sister, Sister!
Ukrainian exchange student welcomed at airport in Arizona by host parents and four host sisters

From 1 brother to 4 sisters for Ukrainian

My name is Sofiya and I am from Ukraine. I am so happy that I became a finalist of the FLEX program and I am grateful for this opportunity. I would like to share my personal experience and story in the USA. I am lucky enough to live in the warm state of Arizona.

I have a big and friendly host family. I am lucky to live with four adorable sisters, my host mom Jo, who makes unbelievable tasty desserts, and my host dad, Chad, who is so fun. I am incredibly grateful that they accepted me into their family. To be honest, I have never had sisters; I have a brother in my country. I can say with confidence that it is cool to be able to try something new in your life and be happy with these changes. From my own experience, I can say that it is great to have so many sisters and we have become really close friends.

I have been in the USA for two months now and in such a short time I have found real friends in my host school. I can hardly convey in words how cool it is to have friends in the USA. They are very open-minded, funny, and charming. I love when I am asked so many questions that I sometimes don’t even have time to answer. My friends are very interested in learning about me and my country.

Never be afraid to dream, because dreams come true, but do not forget to make efforts to achieve what you want.
