Rewarding Work with the FCCLA
Exchange student from Pakistan in Texas classroom

Pakistani leans into leadership role in TX

Before coming here, I had no idea that I would be a part of so many clubs. But choosing to join clubs like interact club, drama club, and FCCLA was the best decision ever.

During my first week of school, I joined the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) group. At that time, they were having the officers election. I just decided to fill out a form as well. I didn’t know I would get selected. Now, I am the historian of the FCCLA club. It's really fun to be an officer. You get to know a lot of people. You make so many friends. Seeing an opportunity and not backing off was a great choice for me.

In the last week of October, we had a lock-in for FCCLA. Being an officer, I had plenty of assigned tasks as well. I was really active. We booked a location and made all the arrangements with our teachers. We went early and set up before people showed up.

Seeing an opportunity and not backing off was a great choice for me.

It was so much fun. We played games, watched horror movies, went for a midnight trail walk, played bunkos, solved murder mysteries, and decorated Halloween cookies. We played hide and seek and my teacher hid the officers in places like the garbage can, the top of refrigerators, the water heaters, and the dungeons.

We had an officers presentation as well in which we told the members of FCCLA the purpose of our club, which is all about social service. All of the officers dressed up in white as representatives of FCCLA. I did so many things for the first time, but it was all so much fun. We were tired after staying up all night, but it was the weekend so it worked out. It was worth it. I had so much fun. I love being a part of these clubs. I have met so many lovely people.
