Indonesian logging some small town fun

Hello everyone! My name is Rulien. I am a YES student from Indonesia, and now I live in Washington State for my amazing exchange year. I live with a very kind and amazing family.

My host family lives in a small western Washington town called Buckley. It is located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, and for many years, logging was the main industry in the area.

The town celebrates logging traditions each year by hosting the Buckley Logger’s Rodeo. There are many events for children, men, and women to compete in throughout the weekend. The fun starts in the morning with a parade down Main Street. We were at the parade and watched logging trucks and many other Buckley citizens march in the parade.

My host family says it is an example of small-town life and a reminder of how things used to be…simple and fun!

Throughout the day the competitors climb high poles, cut logs with saws and axes, walk on logs in the water, and do many other events. The streets close down and there are vendors selling food and crafts lining the sidewalks and throughout the park where the Rodeo takes place.

My host family says it is an example of small-town life and a reminder of how things used to be…simple and fun! I really liked and enjoyed the Buckley Logger’s Parade, because I like to know and learn new things about cultures! I also liked the candies they handed out for sure! I also saw so many enormous trucks that I’ve never seen before—I was amazed by their size.
