Exchange Year Impacts Everyone
High school exchange student from Uzbekistan in KISS makeup with Indiana host family

All in on the KISS makeup for little brother

From the moment that Charos landed at our local airport, she jumped right into learning and experiencing the many opportunities of an exchange year.

Whether that be going to her first American football game (yes, we are from Indiana but are Jacksonville Jaguars fans), visiting American landmarks like the Grand Canyon, volunteering at many places throughout the community, managing her school’s volleyball team, making the school’s basketball cheerleading squad, dressing up in full makeup to go to her host brother’s favorite band’s concert on their farewell tour, or teaching others about her country, Charos has been willing to do it all.

An exchange year makes a big impact on the lives of the actual exchange students. However, the impact is also felt by the host family and the community in which the student is hosted.

An exchange year makes a big impact on the lives of the actual exchange students. However, the impact is also felt by the host family and the community in which the student is hosted. As an example, Charos received a heart-warming thank you letter from a student weeks after giving a presentation about Uzbekistan to a local elementary school class. It was such a wonderful, tangible reminder of the impact of exchange.
