Celebrating Diversity at Church

Exploring cultures in Indiana

It’s really astonishing how diverse America can be. Coming here, I expected to exchange culture with only those who were from America, but the results were radically different from my expectations.

As soon as I got here, I went to a football game at my school where I met exchange students from Asia and Africa. We got to chatting, and we learned a lot about each other and our cultures.

I hope that the rest of my exchange year is as successful in cultural sharing as last Sunday.

Last Sunday at church, I met a lot of people from other countries that live here, in Adams County. We read bible verses in our languages, tasted bread from each other’s countries, and wore our national clothing. It was really one of the greatest experiences I’ve had since I arrived, and I hope that the rest of my exchange year is as successful in cultural sharing as last Sunday.

In this picture, I am standing in front of all the bread from various countries. I got to taste all of them and they were delicious. This was one of the many times I have realized how great America can be with its cultural diversity, and the greatest part is that even with all the cultures, everybody feels special.

I want to send a message to all of the exchange students that are currently in the United States, using M. Scott Peck’s words:

“Share our similarities and celebrate our differences.”
