Texans Hit the Open Road

Road trip bonding for Benedikt (GER) and Eneko (ESP)

Every year, we go visit relatives in Canada and this year is no different, so we took our foreign exchange students along for the ride. They had no idea what they were in for. *Cue hand rubbing and evil laugh*
We drove the whole way, so there was a lot of time for sleep and a lot of time for conversation. When we arrived in Canada, we sampled some local dishes (poutine, which got mixed reviews, and Tim Hortons which got higher marks) and had adventures in fishing for pickerel and drum fish. The boys had a fantastic time running around helping catch the fish and stringing them on the stringer. We stopped in to see my other brother-in-law, who is a hunting guide, and they enjoyed seeing the mounted bears, elk, deer, and other wildlife.
On the way back home from Canada, we decided to go see Mount Rushmore, which was a really cool side trip. The boys were thrilled to see the big presidential faces looking down from the heights.
We also tried to explain the double meaning behind crop dusting and that made for some weird and interesting conversation for sure!
Along the way, we passed some airplanes dusting crops and the boys were curious about it. They saw how low the planes flew and how close to the road they came. As we explained what their function is and how it works we also tried to explain the double meaning behind crop dusting, and that made for some weird and interesting conversation for sure! One thing is for sure; both boys have definitely had a memorable first couple of weeks in the U.S...as well as Canada!
