A Warm Welcome in Washington
Exchange student from Indonesia holding flowers with cashier at grocery store

Read this to feel good about humanity

In the first few days after I arrived in Washington State, my host mom brought me to one of the supermarkets near our neighborhood. It was the very first store I went to in America. We picked a few things to buy and when we met the cashier my mom told her that it was my first day in America!

The cashier immediately said welcome to me with excitement on her face and a very big, sweet smile! She greeted me with joy and has such a big heart to welcome me. She told my host mom to take a bouquet of flowers for free on this special day!

I was so touched and grateful to be welcomed and to receive a beautiful bouquet! I thanked her, took pictures with her, and gave her a big, warm hug. I honestly never expected this kind of heartwarming welcome, so I was very surprised by this particular moment. It was such a lovely way to start the journey of my dreams in the United States of America.
